For technical hiring managers
Assign him to problems with both a hard technical constraint and a user-facing consequence — that's where he performs best. His C++ work (bit-vector UniqueInt, O(n) dedup with ~512MB coverage) signals low-level systems and performance reasoning.
Character note
When given a genuinely hard problem — GPS sub-meter accuracy on consumer hardware — his instinct was to document it rigorously and design a phased solution, not to dismiss it or over-engineer it. Intellectual honesty combined with a bias toward action.
